The best employee cafeteria in Germany from MAN Diesel & Turbo: MAN kann.

A balanced diet is a key factor in keeping employees healthy and motivated. The company restaurant run by MAN Diesel & Turbo in Augsburg is the only one of its kind in Germany to have received the coveted “fünf Kessel” (five cauldron) award.

The “five cauldron” rating is the highest mark awarded by Pemcon GmbH for business catering. In addition to the quality of the food, the award also evaluates economic factors, employee motivation, and sustainability aspects such as use of local, seasonal, and organic foods.

Healthy and fit for peak performance

Occupational health management
at MAN Truck & Bus

Shifting demographics and today’s changing working environments and lifestyles are also leaving their mark on occupational health and safety at MAN. In response, holistic approaches to maintaining our employees’ health and fitness are called for. With the aim of keeping its workforce healthy, motivated, and engaged, MAN has traditionally placed top priority on promoting occupational health, preventive healthcare, ergonomics, and occupational safety.

Below, the people charged with carrying out specific measures and functions at MAN Truck & Bus provide examples of how we apply occupational health management.

Additional measures

At the health islands health islands set up on the shop floor of the Munich plant, employees can get specific advice from experts on different health management issues.

At the first MAN Fun Run, some 600 participants opted to take a sporting tour of the Munich plant. They could choose to cover different stretches of 2.5, 5 or 10 kilometers.

With the aim of creating a bicycle-friendly factory, the Munich plant has revamped its bike-sharing system and plans to make some 600 company bicycles available in the future.

In the ergonomics center in axle logistics in Munich, employees have a say in designing their own workstations. In 2014, for example, they painted their break areas themselves.

Climate and environmental protection at our production sites

Efficiency, resource conservation, and environmental protection are key pillars of our corporate responsibility activities in the production sector. Which is why we have set ourselves a clear goal: by 2020 we aim to reduce CO₂ emissions at our production sites by 25 percent compared to 2008 levels.

How to relax on the job:
Six exercises to clear your head

Sitting all day can be hard work. And tense muscles and tired eyes just make your job more difficult. Taking short breaks to relax makes working more fun and helps cut down on physical complaints as we age.

Below we present six exercises that are suitable for everyone – and you won’t even have to stand up. Take a few moments to get in shape at work.

Let’s get started!

1 Keep things in perspective

fitness_01

Starting position:
Sitting or standing straight

Steps:
Start by keeping your head still and just moving your eyes.

Look to one side. Try to look as far in that direction as you can.

Change the direction of your gaze (left, right, up, down).

Variation: First turn your head in the direction of your gaze, then perform the exercise as described.

Repetitions: Perform several repetitions each time.

Rub the palms of your hands together until they are warm.

Lay your cupped hands lightly over your eyes, enjoy the warmth, and relax.

2 Stay firm under pressure

fitness_02

Starting position:
Sitting straight

Steps:
With your hand, exert light pressure against your forehead.

Resist this pressure and hold your head steady, keeping your nose pointing straight ahead.

Press the back of the head and again resist the pressure, to stop your head from moving or tilting forward.

Press against the front of your chin while trying to tilt it.

Press above your ear and counteract the sideways tilt (don’t move your chin sideways, but act as if you want to move your ear toward your shoulder).

Press the side of the cheek and resist the sideways rotation.

3 Hang loose
